ATLANTA—Kyungeh An, Ph.D, RN, FAAN, FAHA, of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing, has formally accepted the position of associate dean of the Lewis College School of Nursing and is expected to assume her position Oct. 1.
Dr. An is the William and Bernice F. Castella Endowed Professor and director of the PhD in Nursing Science program at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. As director of the Ph.D. program, she pursued grants from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Health Resources Services Administration to support doctorate students’ financial needs and promote scholarly outcomes. The funds supported graduate students with scholarships and the costs of software, conferences and travel. The fund also provided faculty with faculty development workshops and leadership programs.
She previously served as an associate professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Texas Medical Branch.
She earned her doctorate in nursing-neuropsychology from The Ohio State University and her master’s and bachelor’s, both in nursing, from Seoul National University. She started her doctorate program after 10 years of clinical practice.
Her research centers on the biobehavioral risks of cardiovascular disease and stroke in women, Asian Americans and cancer survivors. She currently is a co-investigator on a $4 million HRSA grant on nurse-led rural health care delivery. Dr. An has published 70 peer-reviewed research papers, eight journal reviews and six book chapters. She has been an editorial board member for three nursing journals and reviewed manuscripts for eight journals and grants applications for numerous sponsors, including American Heart Association and Southern Nursing Research Society.
Dr. An is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and of the American Heart Association.
“Dr. An has an impressive record of research, scholarship, leadership and service,” said Dr. Huanbiao Mo, dean of the Lewis College. “Now with the opening of the college’s new simulation center and our partnership with Grady Healthcare, Dr. An is the right person at the right time to lead the Lewis College School of Nursing. I look forward to working with her in taking the School of Nursing to the next level.”
