ATLANTA–Georgia State University’s sixth annual day of giving in support of creating meaningful opportunities for students, Georgia State Day 2023, kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.
Thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff and supporters of Georgia State will donate to advance the institution’s mission and boost opportunities of all kinds for Panthers over the event’s one day, nine hour and 13-minute duration, a length of time chosen to honor the university’s founding year of 1913.
Georgia State Day 2023 will build on the substantial growth in engagement, participation and dollars raised that the event has experienced since its start in 2018. More than 2,100 gifts totaling $973,000 were made on Georgia State Day 2022, making it the fifth consecutive year of setting a new giving day high in total dollars raised.
“Georgia State Day is about celebrating Georgia State’s mission and Panther potential by showing support for students and contributing to programs that create opportunities for academic exploration, creative breakthroughs and personal or professional connection,” said Telly McGaha, co-interim vice president of university advancement and interim president of the Georgia State University Foundation. “Each gift on Georgia State Day provides students with something incredibly meaningful, whether it supports scholarships that ease their financial burden, strengthens programs that foster discovery or simply gives them a boost from seeing how many of us believe in their ambitions, goals and dreams enough to invest in them.”
Each year, dozens of volunteers play a vital role in Georgia State Day’s success, serving as ambassadors to fuel engagement with and participation in giving day. The university is seeking individuals to serve as Georgia State Day Champions. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters of the university can sign up to be a Champion at thestateday.gsu.edu.
As in years past, donors can increase – even double – the value of their gifts to participating colleges and programs through dozens of available giving challenges and matching gifts.
