Renowned conductor and music educator, Dr. Robert J. Ambrose, embarked on a trip to Singapore this past June, where he played a significant role in the five-day Woodlands Young Conductors Workshop. This workshop, curated by Muhamad Yusri, a former Singapore military band conductor and the current conductor of the Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony, aimed to train young conductors and enrich their musical education.
During the workshop, Dr. Ambrose had the privilege of working closely with 12 talented conductors from all corners of Singapore, each carrying a unique passion for music and leadership. These young conductors were eager to learn and grow under Dr. Ambrose's tutelage. The workshop offered daily lectures and live conducting sessions where participants were able to refine their skills in a live setting with four ensembles. These ensembles included the esteemed Singapore Wind Symphony, the Winds Chamber Ensemble, The Clarinet Club Clarinet Choir, and the Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony.
Notably, the last two days of the workshop were graced by the presence of GSU alumnus Kai Hong Yeung, who joined as a co-faculty member. This collaboration further enriched the learning experience for all involved, offering a diverse range of perspectives and insights.
Ambrose comments, "I was thrilled to have this opportunity to work once again with young conductors from Singapore. Mr. Yusri has created an exceptional group opportunity for conductors in Singapore through his Woodlands Young Conductors Workshop. I was honored to be asked to be part of such a meaningful and significant event!"

Dr. Robert Ambrose's journey to Singapore stands as a testament to the global impact of music education. His dedication to nurturing young talents and inspiring future conductors is a beacon of hope for the world of music. We applaud Dr. Ambrose's commitment to musical excellence and the passion he instills in the hearts of aspiring conductors. We extend our warmest wishes to all the participants of the Woodlands Young Conductors Workshop as they continue to grow and flourish in their musical endeavors.
