ATLANTA—Georgia State University’s Office of Government Affairs is expanding with the hire of Chris Green, formerly the Director of Economic Development for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG). Green will report to Vice President for Government Affairs Michael Parkerson and starts June 1.
As the Director of Economic Development for the University System, Green focused on strengthening partnerships between public higher education and Georgia-based businesses to address workforce and talent needs throughout the state. In addition to representing USG with the Georgia Department of Economic Development and other key stakeholders to support business recruitment, he was responsible for fostering employer and university partnerships to develop professional learning, academic curriculum, experiential learning and innovation-driven research opportunities for all USG institutions.
Prior to joining USG, Green served as the Director of External Affairs for the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), a state agency that administers more than 20 student financial aid programs, including the HOPE Scholarship. In this role, he was responsible for building positive relationships to advance GSFC’s mission to promote and increase access to postsecondary education for Georgians. Green began his career in public service at the Georgia Department of Agriculture where he served as Deputy Policy Director and Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Agriculture, Gary W. Black.
A native of Athens, Ga., Green attended Clarke County schools before earning a B.A. in History and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Georgia. He also holds a Public Manager Certificate from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. In his spare time, Chris is an active member of Buckhead Church and belongs to several historical organizations that support lifelong learning.
