ATLANTA – Katherine Garcia-Ramos has been appointed associate director of sponsored research at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business.
Garcia-Ramos will work with Robinson’s associate dean for research, Todd Maurer, to build and maintain the college’s sponsored programs portfolio, enabling and encouraging faculty and staff to pursue external funding. She will serve as the college’s expert on issues related to sponsored funding, contracting, and ongoing financial relationships with corporate, business, and foundation entities to support innovative collaborative research and pedagogical projects funded by industry. She will also manage the college’s grant-related systems and processes that support research programs.
“I am grateful to Associate Dean Maurer for entrusting me with this role to continue building Robinson’s portfolio in research development,” said Garcia-Ramos. “I strongly believe in research development and look forward to working with our faculty and staff on the many possibilities available.”
Garcia-Ramos will identify funding opportunities for faculty based on individual research interests, plan workshops for applying to specific agencies for funding, and provide training on Robinson-specific procedures for applications to funding agencies. She will also work with faculty and staff to develop corporate and industry contracts and partnerships. Additionally, she will coordinate proposals and manage budgets.
The 2019 Higher Education Research and Development Report ranks Georgia State No. 3 in the U.S. for research expenditures in business management and administration. Robinson’s location provides easy access to numerous Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies headquartered in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and the college is rapidly pursuing idea development with students, faculty, and strategic partners.
Garcia-Ramos comes to Robinson from Rutgers University where she held roles that supported sponsored programming and awards. Most recently, she served as a business specialist responsible for grant management acting as a liaison between the institution and sponsor agencies as well as with the university’s office of research and sponsored programs, office of corporate contracts, the foundation, and office of grants facilitation.
“Katherine brings valuable experience and knowledge to Robinson,” Maurer said. “She will help us advance important sponsored programs efforts.”
Garcia-Ramos holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and an MBA from Berkeley College.
