ATLANTA–Georgia State University’s fifth annual university-wide day of giving, Georgia State Day 2022, will start Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. to raise funds for programs that support and create opportunities for students and advance Georgia State’s mission. This year’s Georgia State Day giving priorities focus on 12 key areas that enrich the student experience – from their start at the university through graduation and into their careers – and enhance student outcomes.
For one day, nine hours and 13 minutes – a timeframe established in honor of Georgia State’s founding year of 1913 – thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends will donate to the areas of the university they care most about. Participants will also use #THESTATEDAY tag on social media to encourage others to give and to unlock Georgia State Day challenge gifts before the event ends at 7:13 p.m. on Wed. Sept. 28.
Georgia State Day 2022 will build on the remarkable growth the annual giving day has experienced; the number of participants and dollars raised have increased each year. Last year, more than 2,000 individuals made a total of 2,720 gifts that raised $931,000 – all Georgia State Day records – for more than 260 university programs and initiatives.
“Georgia State Day has grown into the university’s biggest and most visible annual event for energizing donors into giving Panthers and university programs a meaningful boost,” said Jay Kahn, vice president of university advancement and president of the Georgia State Foundation. “Georgia State Day gives our generous donors the chance to show students that there are thousands of us who believe in their potential, while investing in the programs that unlock opportunities and help them reach it.”
The university is seeking spirited volunteers who want to help make Georgia State Day successful. These volunteer ambassadors, or Panther Advancers, will fuel engagement with and participation in Georgia State Day and encourage donations. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends can sign up to be a Panther Advancer at thestateday.gsu.edu.
As in years past, donors will have a chance to increase the value of their gifts to participating colleges and units through dozens of available giving challenges and matching gifts.
Get involved, become a Panther Advancer or make a gift by visiting thestateday.gsu.edu. Supporters are encouraged to check back regularly because new challenge gifts and incentives will be added through September.
