Arun Rai, Regents’ Professor, Howard S. Starks Distinguished Chair, and director of the Center for Digital Innovation at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, has received the Inaugural INFORMS Information Systems Society (ISS) President’s Service Award. It was presented to Rai at the society’s annual meeting in October.
INFORMS ISS established the President’s Service Award to recognize individuals who have exhibited extraordinary dedication in service to the information systems community over time and provided leadership beneficial to the growth and impact of the discipline and its impact on the business community.
“Arun Rai has made excellent contributions in advancing the field of information systems through his research, his mentorship of students, through his editorial roles at the most influential journals of the field, and through other professional activities over the course of a distinguished career,” said Richard Phillips, dean of the Robinson College. “He is a true servant leader.”
Among other activities, Rai was editor in chief of “MIS Quarterly” from 2016 through 2020. He also has served as senior editor of “MIS Quarterly” and “Information Systems Research,” and held a variety of leadership roles in the information systems field.
This is Rai’s second recognition from INFORMS ISS. The organization named him a Distinguished Fellow in 2014. He was recognized as a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) in 2010 and, in 2019 he received the AIS LEO Award for Lifetime Exceptional Achievement in the information systems discipline.
