Dear university community,
As a democracy built on the rule of law, our United States relies on its judicial system to protect the rights of all people and ensure equal justice under the law. Today’s conviction of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd was a demonstration of our judicial system serving justice. The decision rendered by the jury results from a thorough examination of the case as presented by the prosecution and the defense. George Floyd did not deserve to die, and the jury was clear on who was responsible.
Our Georgia State community advocates for equal opportunity, equal justice and equal rights, and the Chauvin decision reminds us we must continue to embrace the legacy and value of a nation where the rule of law is our foundation. Above all, we stand together for justice and the equal rights of all Americans.
