Georgia State and State Farm forged a relationship more than 30 years ago to help students reach their potential. Today, the partnership helps more than 6,500 students and community members each year.
Since Georgia State and State Farm started working together in 1987, the insurance company has dedicated more than $18 million in support of Georgia State’s mission.
The centerpiece of the partnership is the groundbreaking Learning, Income and Family Transformation Program (LIFT) at Perimeter College’s Decatur campus.
Implemented in 2017, the LIFT program has helped Georgia State adapt its innovative student success initiatives for Perimeter College students. The program provides academic and career support along with 50 scholarships each year to students at the Decatur campus.
In the four years since the consolidation with Georgia Perimeter College, and three years since the LIFT program began, Perimeter College has become one of the top 20 two-year colleges in the nation for student success, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. The graduation rate has nearly tripled, and more than 50 percent of Perimeter College students successfully transfer to bachelor’s degree programs.
Today, State Farm’s support touches more than 6,500 students and members of the larger community each year through scholarships, community outreach and programmatic support at the Atlanta and Perimeter College campuses.
“The State Farm Veterans Scholarship enabled me to stop working my second job and focus on school. The time I spent not working was put toward homework, reading or studying for an exam. I went from a 2.0 GPA to a 3.75. The State Farm Scholarship is a real blessing that I will always be thankful for.”

“The State Farm Transition Scholarship put me in a position where I will not have to spend time worrying about how I will pay my tuition or whether I will be able to afford the next semester of school. I firmly believe that my academic success thus far can widely be credited to the financial assistance I received.”
- Portia Johnson (Class of 2021)
“Without State Farm’s help, I would be drowning in student loan debt. My transition from Perimeter College to the Atlanta Campus came with more financial needs, so the scholarship determined whether I could afford to live on campus and be on a meal plan. Without the scholarship, school would be a huge financial burden. This gift allows me to pursue my dreams.”
- Brandon Butler (Associate of Science ‘19, Class of 2023)
“State Farm has given me an opportunity to further my education without worrying about how I will pay for college. Being a first-generation college student is very important to me. This network of supportive programs and resources has helped me with my transition from Perimeter College to the Atlanta Campus. I appreciate how supportive State Farm has been and thank them for helping me achieve my goals."
