A new recording from conductor Dr. Deanna Joseph, Associate Professor, Director of Choral Activities and the Georgia State University Singers is refreshing five lesser-known Shaker tunes for new audiences on "Heavenly Display." The Shakers, also known as the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Coming, were prolific composers, writing more than 10,000 songs meant only for the human voice.

New arrangements of these five songs by Kevin Siegfried, the composer-in-residence for the Capitol Hill Chorale in Washington D.C., provide the structure for this album of 20th and 21st-century choral works. The collection of fourteen songs, grouped according to the five original works that inspired them, explores themes of peace, a parent's love, and awe over creation, and concludes with two vocal, sacred compositions for Advent and Christmas.
Dr. Joseph conducted the extraordinary choir of vocalists recorded in the warm acoustics of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
