Professor Terri Pigott will coordinate a research institute designed to support early career STEM educators.
Pigott will work with Ryan Williams and Joshua Polanin from the American Institutes for Research and Elizabeth Tipton from Northwestern University on the Modern Meta-Analysis Research Institute, a five-day event designed to teach participants important data analysis skills necessary for high-quality STEM education research.
Pigott and her colleagues will recruit graduate students and early career educators – particularly those from underrepresented minorities – to attend the research institute, which is tentatively scheduled for June 2020.
“Many interventions exist to support students in STEM fields and we often develop new interventions without looking more closely at what has worked for particular students in past studies,” she said. “The training will increase STEM researchers’ ability to synthesize the results of past studies as they develop new interventions for STEM learning.”
The research institute is supported by a $1 million National Science Foundation grant, $719,537 of which Pigott will receive.
