Sarah Agnew found her beach in downtown Atlanta.
The exercise science major and Honors College student was a star on the beach volleyball team for four years. Her first year with the team was just its second year in existence.
‘“It was really neat to be a part of the sport’s initial foundation at the collegiate level,” she said.
“I knew Georgia State would continue to grow and thrive, but the magnitude of that growth in only two short years has surpassed all of my expectations.”
She said her role as a student-athlete provided her with an immediate support system through her coaches and teammates, but said she found a sense of community in the Honors College.
“Being a part of the Honors College has allowed me to fully immerse myself in a high-achieving culture,” she said. “I have grown passionate about learning.”
Agnew served as an Honors College ambassador, a 1913 Society ambassador and a participant in Georgia State’s WomenLead program.
She’s the winner of the Nell Hamilton Trotter Student Leadership Award, named for the first dean of women at Georgia State, which recognizes an outstanding commitment to student involvement, and is the highest student leadership award presented by the university.
She’s not stopping there. She’ll begin working toward a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Georgia State three weeks after graduation. She plans to follow her second degree with a career in neurology or amputation in the field of physical therapy.
