
Georgia State University College of Law graduates fared well on the July 2017 bar examination, with an 84.5 percent passage rate for first-time takers, ahead of the overall state rate of 79.2 percent. The college was second behind University of Georgia, which had an 89.3 percent passage rate for first-time takers.

“We are pleased with our students’ performance and the increase in scores from last July,” said Wendy F. Hensel, interim dean and professor of law. “We continue to implement innovative programs to strengthen our students’ performance on this exam.”
Mercer University Walter F. Georgia School of Law finished with an 82.4 percent rate for first-time takers. Emory University School of Law finished with an 81.9 percent rate. Savannah Law School had an 54.5 percent passing rate with Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School finishing with a 51.7 percent rate.
The overall state passage rate for all bar applicants is 66.9 percent. For the six ABA accredited schools, the overall state rate is 71.4 percent.
For the LL.M. Program for Foreign Trained Lawyers, Georgia State Law finished with a 20 percent passing rate for first-timers ahead of Emory Law’s 11 percent. The state rate for foreign LL.M. students is 11.8 percent for first-time takers. It is at 13.6 percent for all takers.
Georgia State Law will celebrate these newly minted lawyers at the annual Swearing-In Ceremonies and breakfast at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, in the Catherine Henson Atrium and Ceremonial Courtroom at 85 Park Place NE.
