ATLANTA–The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia today (Nov. 9) approved Georgia State University’s purchase of Turner Field from the Georgia State Foundation.
Georgia State University could spend $47.8 million to buy and renovate Turner Field and nearby properties, converting the baseball stadium into a new football stadium as part of a mixed-use development and extension of Georgia State’s campus.
The Panthers hope to begin play in the ballpark next season, and the university could do so with relatively minor modifications while it develops a more extensive football-only redesign, two architects on the original stadium design team told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
