Dozens of enterprising undergraduate students participate each year in an annual conference that highlights and recognizes their research. The Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference gives students the opportunity to present their hard work and innovative ideas to fellow students, faculty and staff.
Carissa Lavin, Krishna Mehta and Aaron Richards, students in Georgia State’s Honors College, are three participants who grasp every opportunity Georgia State provides.
Carissa Lavin
Carissa Lavin has her sights set on making a difference. She’s chosen housing discrimination as a research topic, and her eyes are set on law school after finishing her bachelor’s degree. Someday, she’d like to run for office. She’s making a difference now, helping to care for children of a mother who has cancer.
Krishna Mehta
Krishna Mehta’s research looks at the effects of dietary emulsifiers, food additives that affect the connection between the gut and brain. She plans to continue the pursuit of health science in medical school.

Aaron Richards
Aaron Richards’ research centers on the Atlanta Life Insurance Company — a business started by America’s first African-American millionaire — and the role it played in the Civil Rights Movement.
