The Institute for Insight at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University teaches students to find solutions to big data challenges facing real companies and organizations. Working with institute faculty and industry professionals, Robinson’s Master of Science in Analytics students learn to transform this digital deluge into the building blocks of decision-making. In addition to courses, the institute provides immersive and integrated real-world experiences. In March, the institute hosted Data Science Atlanta at the Buckhead Center. More than 100 current and aspiring data scientists, as well as industry experts and graduate analytics students came together for Dustin Heslep’s discussion, “Say No to Big Data and Yes to Big Value.”
As the director of analytics for Georgia-Pacific, Heslep shared, “According to Gartner, 85% of analytics strategies do not have quantifiable business outcomes. We will discuss our approach in applying data science methods with sound economic thinking to improve the results from analytics.” Rick Young, CEO and founder of 3Sage Consulting, the event’s corporate sponsor, opened the discussion and provided refreshments. Data Science Atlanta’s next meet-up will occur in late April.
