Georgia State Researchers Find State Regulations Linked to Late Cancer Diagnoses

ATLANTA–States’ regulations of health insurance and practitioners significantly influence when patients receive colorectal or breast cancer diagnoses, especially among people younger than the Medicare-eligible age of 65, according to a new study by researchers at Georgia State University’s School of Public Health and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Researcher Gets $1.48 Million to Study Disease That Causes Blindness in AIDS Patients

ATLANTA—Dr. Richard Dix, professor in the Department of Biology at Georgia State University, has received a four-year, $1.48 million federal grant to study an eye disease that causes vision loss and blindness in HIV-immunosuppressed patients who do not have access to antiretroviral therapy or don’t respond to the therapy.

ATLANTA—Nancy P. Kropf, associate dean for research and strategic initiatives and professor of social work in Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, has been appointed dean of the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions at Georgia State, effective Aug. 10.
