The Student Bar Association (SBA) throws several events throughout the fall semester, the first of these events was a back-to-school party on Aug. 17. SBA events are open to everyone at the law school and they are a great way for first-years to meet students in different sections along with second-year and third-year students. These events are also a chance to hang out with classmates in a more relaxed setting.
While at SBA parties, students can also learn about other exciting events going on around the law school, ranging from guest speakers to co-curricular activities. I spoke with Caleb Swiney (J.D. ’19), on one of our Moot Court teams. Swiney is excited for Moot Court competitions to start, because “last year we beat University of Georgia during the final round of the Intrastate Moot Court Competition, and we are hoping to bring home the winning again this year.”
Another event happening around the law school that students are excited about is the on-campus yoga classes. Students can attend these free yoga classes, which started on Aug. 28. The classes will take place in the Faculty Commons (Room 304) from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays and from 7:45-8:45 a.m. Tuesdays. Law school can be very stressful at times and many students find that these yoga classes are a great way to unwind and reduce stress levels.
In the coming weeks several clubs will be hosting speakers and panel discussion during lunch. The Mindfulness in Law Society held a Mindfulness Panel on Aug. 23. And the Center for Law, Health & Society is hosting a panel discussion on the Health is a Human Right exhibit that is on display in the Research Centers and Institutes on the fourth floor.
If you missed the back-to-school party, don’t worry SBA normally hosts several events throughout the fall semester including a Halloween party and a post finals/end of the semester celebration.
Lauren Singer (J.D. '19) is a GRA for the communications team. In between classes and studying, Singer searches for good stories about her classmates and student organizations.
