CLARKSTON, Ga. – Georgia State University Perimeter College students Alana Burrell and Zachary Palmertree have been selected to attend the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholar Program at Kennedy Space Center in Florida this fall.
The STEM students will be mentored by NASA engineers, work on research and participate in a MARS rover robotics competition.
Burrell and Palmertree competed with other students in an online version of the program before being selected to attend the onsite NASA program.
“We get to share designs and concepts for a possible mission to Mars, participate in a workshop developing engineering design skills while competing onsite at a NASA Research Center and work on a team to develop a robotic rover mission in anticipation to a mission to Mars,” Burrell said.
Students selected for the program have an interest and aptitude for mathematics, science, engineering or computer science and are U.S. citizens pursuing their initial undergraduate degree at a community college.
