Georgia State Law’s Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth continues to grow the number of Urban Fellows alumni, graduating 16 students ready to make our cities better places to live and work.
“I really enjoyed the Urban Fellows Program because it provided countless opportunities to meet, learn from, and network with local professionals who are passionate about urban and environmental issues,” said Danielle Weit (J.D. ’16).
"The Urban Fellows program provided the most practical experience that I gained in law school. The speakers and academic opportunities were consistently relevant and timely. I was lucky enough to study abroad in Brazil through the Urban Fellows program, and that experience continues to influence my perspective on urban issues. For students interested in environmental law, land use, and a variety of other urban issues, this program is a must," Joseph Baumann (J.D. ’16) said.
Urban Fellows enrich their studies with discussions about environmental, land use and urban issues with top decision makers through a special lecture series. A hallmark of the program is the opportunity to write an in-depth research paper on an urban issue of personal interest.
“As a public health graduate student, the Urban Fellows Program allowed me to write about health impact assessments. This topic complemented the other courses I was taking, but the Urban Fellows Program enabled me to dive deeper into this topic than would be allowed in a typical graduate course,” said Eric Ryan Morrisey (MPH ’17).
“Urban Fellows have become a community within our alumni community. They serve as guest lecturers, mentor, and provide career advice to students. The Urban Fellows alumni donated at record amounts this year, enabling even more opportunities for our students, said Karen Johnston (J.D. ’16), assistant director. “The Urban Fellows Program is a strong program because it starts with strong students poised to be leaders in their communities”.
